Acceptable Forms of Identification

Identification must be current or issued within 5 years:

California Department of Motor Vehicles driver's license or identification card;
A United States passport;
An inmate identification issued by a sheriff's department, if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility; or
Any of the following provided it contains a photograph, description of the person, and an identifying number:
- A valid consular identification document issued by a consulate from the applicant's country of citizenship;
- A driver's license issued by another state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue driver's licenses;
- A United States military identification card;
- An employee identification card issued by an agency or office of the State of California, or an agency or office of a city, county, or city and county in California;
- An identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government.
Oath of a single credible witness under penalty of perjury whom is known personally by Notary Jessica and has an acceptable form of identification.
Oath of two credible witnesses under penalty of perjury not personally known by Notary Jessica and each has acceptable form of identification.

Please note the above forms of acceptable identification was derived from the California Civil Code section 1185 (a). Therefore, these forms of identification will be the ONLY forms of identification accepted.

Notary Jessica is flexible and works with situations of proof of execution by subscribing witnesses & signature by mark

Subscribing witness = If you, the signer, cannot personally appear before Notary Jessica, another person can appear on your behalf to prove under penalty of perjury that you signed (or "executed") the document. This however cannot be done with any power of attorney, quitclaim deed, grant deed, mortgage, deed of trust, security agreement, any instrument affecting real property, or any instrument requiring your thumbprint in the notary public journal.

The requirements are:

Subscribing witness must be accompanied by a credible witness whom is personally known to the subscribing witness.
The credible witness must personally know Notary Jessica.
The credible witness must have an acceptable form of identification.

Signature by mark = If the signer of the document to be notarized cannot write or sign, that person may sign the document by mark. The requirements are:

Signer by mark must have an acceptable form of identification.
The signing by mark must be witnessed by two persons.

Notarization of Foreign Language Documents

Notary Jessica will notarize documents in a foreign language. However, Notary Jessica will only notarize for an individual that can effectively communicate. No translators. Notary Jessica will not notarize if the signer requires a translator to effectively communicate.

Virtual & Electronic Notarizations

Notary Jessica does not participate in virtual or electronic notarizations regardless of client’s inability to travel or personally appear; this applies to COVID-19. Notary Jessica is mobile, and thus comes to you, eliminating the need for virtual or electronic notarizations.
